AdU Encounters: Horror Stories within the Campus

  By Xyra Mae A. Desalisa

It is believed that every school has their own set of ghost stories and spooky urban legends to tell, and Adamson University is not an exception. With 87 years since it was established, the university had its fair share on different spooky stories from students, faculty, and other employees.

Here are the Top 10 ghost stories from the Adamson Community:

1. The Armchair

A student shared that when he is still a freshman student, his first class was 7:00 in the morning. Since he is from Cavite, he always leave their house around 5:00 and arrives at school by 6:00. He is always the first one to stay in their room (SV 203) so what he does is to sleep in his armchair until there is someone he can talk to. That was his daily routine until one time, while sleeping, he heard the sound of an armchair being pulled in his right side. He thought that one of his classmates arrived so he take a look at his side and found out that he was all alone. The sound stopped when he looked. He decided to look at the room SV 202 and SV 204 to check where the sound is coming from but discovered that there are no students in both rooms as well.

He decided to just ignore it and thought that he was just imagining things. But the same scenario happened the next day, he heard the sound of an armchair getting pulled again, then when he takes a look it will stop. This is when he thought of just bowing his head. After 10 seconds, he heard a loud thud of an armchair from the back of the room. Due to fear, he ran out of the room leaving his bag inside. He did not enter the room until his classmates came.

2. The Headless Priest

Sunday at around 8:00 in the evening, a lady guard is on duty for gate guard. She decided to get some water from the fountain beside the Legal Office in CS Building as she was thirsty. On her way to get some water, she saw someone standing in the passageway going to OZ Building wearing a white clothing. She got her flashlight and light the way going to the passageway to see who is the one standing there. That was the time she saw the white clothing which is a cassock/sotana (it is the clothing of the priests) moving even when there was no wind. Due to fear, the lady guard ran as fast as she could. Based from other stories, the ghost is a headless priest that tends to walk around the Campus Ministry Office going down the Falcon Bridge. It was believed that there are 10 priests tortured by Japanese around 1945 and their body was thrown at the Estero de Ballete.

4. The Kid in the Social Science/Languages Department

One professor shared that during the intersession term, she and her colleague were always the last one to go home. They stayed in the Social Science/Languages faculty up until 8 or 9 in the evening. One time, three of the students waited for them to finish their work because there are lots of rumors that it is not good to stay in the faculty alone. According to the professor, one of the students can see ghosts and the other is very innocent who does not believe in ghost. When one of the students looked in front, she was shocked and asked the professor “Why there’s a kid in front looking at us?” At first the professors were confused, but when they realized it, all of them stood up, closed the lights, and immediately went outside the faculty. It was said that the ghost kid already exists even when the ST Building is still the St. Theresa College.

This happened when one of the professor is still a high school student in AdU. During lunch break of summer class 1972, he decided to go to the SV third floor Bathroom (women’s comfort room already today) to wash his face. While washing his face, someone enters the comfort room and every cubicle is moving as if someone is kicking it one by one. The professor thought that it is a thug student but when he looks around, he was all alone in the CR.

He decided to ignore the woman for a while and focused on doing his assignment. But when he looked at the woman again, the woman suddenly disappeared.      We will never know if all horror stories are true and if it has factual basis. However, what we are left to do is to pray for the peace of the souls of those who left our world earlier than us. It is normal to be afraid of something we do not clearly see or know about and to experience something especially when we are alone. The best thing to combat fear is to pray and ask for the guidance of the Lord so that He will not only free us from our worries but also guide those souls who are still wandering their paths toward their afterlife destination. As how it is said, “Feed you faith and your fears will starve.”
